About

Hello! My name is Rebecca and I’m an independent filmmaker currently based in NYC. I’m probably best known for directing Middlemarch: The Series, a vlog-style adaptation of George Eliot’s Middlemarch, and Girl, Sweetvoiced, a short film adapted from the poetry of Sappho.

That’s me ^

In a desperate attempt to escape social media for good, I’ve moved to a pair of email newsletters as the primary place to talk about my films — and I’ve had a shockingly good time so far taking the time to slow down and write up my thoughts about my work instead of just throwing each new film into the Instagram/YouTube vacuum.

If you’d like to subscribe, you’ll get some thoughts from me once a month about the wild ups and downs of (very) independent filmmaking.

You can also join The Film Club, a private, slightly more personal newsletter where I send out each film a week before it goes live, along with some longer-form commentary about how the film came to be.

In any case, thanks so much for being here, and if you’re a fellow ~artist~, I wish you the best of luck with any and all creative ventures!

Best,
